Ten 13 Ministry

What is Ten 13?
Our Recovery Ministry meets every Thursday at 7PM in the Fellowship Hall. We will have two groups available; one for anyone struggling with an addiction (separate men’s and women’s) and another for their family or friends. Snacks and coffee are always provided!
We meet for worship, a message, small group sharing and fellowship. Men meet with men, and women with women. The family and friends group is mixed.
Our goal is to assist those who have struggles with addictions, or to assist someone who is in a relationship with someone who does. We do this by allowing the transforming power of God’s Word, the 12 steps, and dialogue to help us overcome our addictions and free those who have them.
Scriptural basis: 1 Corinthians 10:13: “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.”
About Ten 13?
Overview
The Ten13 recovery ministry is a Christ-centered recovery ministry, offering an environment of hope and encouragement for anyone struggling with an addiction or friends and family members of someone with an addiction.
Our Mission
Our mission is to see people set free from the bondage of addiction through a relationship with Jesus Christ, the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, and the Word of God. Through fellowship and prayer, we draw closer to the Lord, leaving our bondage to addiction behind.
Our Format
We use the 12 Steps and the fundamental spiritual principles found in them to help guide the recovery process. We provide prayer and fellowship in a small group setting, with groups for men, women, and friends/family. We stress an environment of anonymity and confidentiality to all participants. Openness and honesty is highly encouraged in our small group personal sharing.
The Leadership
The leadership of Ten13 have found freedom from addiction through the power of Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, and have a God given burden to help others break free from their bondage (Galatians 6:1-2). Sponsorship, accountability partnerships, and counseling are available.
If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction, we encourage you to attend. God bless you and we pray you will find the freedom you seek through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The 12 Steps
The Twelve Steps are a collection of spiritual disciplines that have proven to be helpful to people recovering from addictive behaviors. We view them as a tool to point the user to the spiritual principles found in the Word of God. Practically, they are used to help form a healthy relationship with God, oneself, and others. There is nothing magical about the twelve steps. They are not a cure for addictions. It is important also to remember that the steps do not contain everything we need to know about the Christian faith. They can be a spiritual starting point for someone just starting a life of faith in Jesus Christ, or can be a way for a long time believer to get back to the basics of the faith.
Step One
We admitted we were powerless over our addictions—that our lives had become unmanageable.
“I know nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” (ROMANS 7:18)

Step Two
Come to believe that God could restore us to sanity.
“For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” (PHILIPPIANS 2:13)

Step Three
Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God.
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—which is your spiritual worship.” (ROMANS 12:1)

Step Four
Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
“Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.” (LAMENTATIONS 3:40)
Other references: Matt 23:23-28, Matt 7:1-5, 2Cor 13:5, 2Cor 7:8-11, Pr 14:8, Ps 139:23-24, Gal 6:3-5, Rom 13:11-14, 1Cor 11:27-32, Col 3:5-8, Eph 4:31
Step Five
Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
“Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.” (JAMES 5:16)
Other references: 1 Jn 1:8-9, Ps 32:1-5, 1 Tim 1:12-16, Heb 10:22, Pr 28:13, Act 19:11-20, Rom 14:12, Ps 32:3-5, Ps 66:18, Jer 14:20, 2Cor 10:3-5, Heb 4:12-16
Step Six
Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

Other references: Is 1:19, Rom 6:1-12, Ps 51:16-17, Eph 4:17-23, 1 Jn 4:18, 1 Jn 5:14-15, John 5:2-9, 1 Pet 1:13, Ps 37:4-5, Php 3:12-14, Rom 12:2, Jas 1:5-6
Step Seven
Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

Step Eight
Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.
Do to others as you would have them do to you.” (LUKE 6:31)
Other references: Matt 6:14-15, Matt 7:1-5, Lk 6:27-38, Heb 10:24, Act 24:16, Jn 13:34-35, Matt 18:21-35, Eph 4:32, Rom 2:1, 15:1-3, Mk 11:25, James 3:13-17
Step Nine
Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother, then come and offer your gift.(Mat 5:23-24)

Step Ten
Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

Step Eleven
Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.” (COLOSSIANS 3:16)
Other references: Matt 7:7, Php 4:6-9, Rom 12:2, 1 Pet 5:7, Jn 3:18-21, 4:13-14, Rom 8:26-28, Gal 2:20, Tit 3:1-7, Ps 1:1-3, 27:1-6, 84:5-12, 127:1-2, Is 40:28-31
Step Twelve
Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
“Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.” (GALATIANS 6:1)
